My first month at Tellmi
The start of a new job is a universal tightrope walk. Will people like me? Will I like the work? I’ve always known my anxiety is usually just excitement wearing a mask, but standing around the corner from the Tellmi office at 8:30 AM on my first day, my mind felt like a washing machine on a high-speed spin cycle.
When 8:55 finally rolled around, I walked through the door and into a space that felt different. Welcomed by Sharmaine, Jack, and Jess, the air felt healthy, a fresh start in every sense.
The "washing machine" head I had that morning is a permanent state for many young people today, but for much heavier reasons. The research is sobering: 75% of mental health issues are established by age 24, yet thousands of young people fall into the "missing middle"- needing more support than a school can provide, but not able to access clinical interventions or are on long waiting lists. This is the problem Tellmi exists to solve. We aren't just an app; we are a bridge to other support services.
My onboarding was a masterclass in clarity. For three weeks, my line manager and I tackled a task and a learning point per day that built my confidence until I was suddenly building client relationships and delivering workshops in schools. I even started to enjoy the process of using the CRM system.
In the fast-paced, collaborative world of the Tellmi team, there is no such thing as a "wrong" answer. That culture of respect allowed me to dive into the projects ahead of me head-first.
Within my first 5 months, Tellmi has seen:
5,354 active users in the app
15,151 posts made on Tellmi
41,618 replies to posts
Working at Tellmi has given me a new sense of purpose I didn’t know I was missing. As we look toward the rest of 2026, the goal is simple: scale. I’m hungry to learn more, reach more people, and ensure that no one has to wait in silence.
The "washing machine" has finally stopped; I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.
