What We Do

Our mission is to make mental health support available to everyone, everywhere. Tellmi is a multi-award-winning, fully moderated, anonymous, mental health service predominantly for young people aged 11-25. The Tellmi app safely enables young people to talk about difficult things and encourages them to help themselves by helping each other. Beneath an engaging anonymous peer-to-peer feed, Tellmi integrates the latest psychological research to promote the development of protective factors such as emotional resilience, empathy, social skills, stress management, and coping techniques. Tellmi is commissioned by the NHS and Local Authorities across the UK.

The Tellmi app is free to download with premium features in commissioned areas. The app is available 365 days a year, 24/7, and our moderators, counsellors, and therapists are available from 8:30 am until 11 pm every day. Tellmi’s specialist extensions currently offer support for autism, diabetes, and unemployment, with new areas being planned for 2026.

Your role

We are seeking an ambitious, results-driven Business Development Manager to join our team. You will be responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new commercial partnerships and contracts within the NHS (National Health Service), Public Health, and broader mental health landscape across the UK. You will leverage your deep understanding of the NHS structure, commissioning cycles, and healthcare pathways to drive growth and expand the reach of Tellmi’s premium services. You will work closely with our lead generation partner, Elemental, to nurture and develop high-potential leads as well as our Head of Delivery and Marketing.

You will report directly to the Co-CEOs. We are looking for someone who is highly proactive, reliable, and eager to take the initiative to help Tellmi become the market leader for digital peer support in the UK. This role offers considerable opportunity for career progression as the business grows.

Your Specific Duties

Commercial Strategy & Growth

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy focused on securing new business with Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), NHS Trusts, Local Authorities (Public Health), and other relevant commissioning bodies.

  • Proactively identify and qualify commercial opportunities aligned with our strategic goals, using market intelligence, procurement portals, and established professional networks.

  • Build on existing internal lead generation processes by moving high value prospects from needs assessment through proposal submission, presentation, negotiation, and contract closure.

  • Work closely with Elemental to direct their focus in-line with our commercial strategy.

  • Achieve and exceed defined sales targets and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain robust, long-term commercial relationships with key commissioning stakeholders, including commissioners, service leads, finance directors, and clinical decision-makers.

  • Act as the primary commercial point of contact, expertly communicating the value proposition of our solutions and translating complex health needs into compelling business cases.

  • Attend and represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking functions focused on NHS and Public Health commissioning.

  • Educate the market (commissioners and clinical decision-makers) through webinars, thought leadership, direct messaging etc. about the benefits of Tellmi with the objective of influencing their procurement decisions and requirements of the tender specifications.

Proposal Development & Marketing

  • Develop tailored presentations, proposals, and commercial documents that clearly articulate ROI and address specific commissioning priorities (e.g., addressing health inequalities, elective backlog, prevention).

  • Work closely with the marketing team to create a compelling, up-to-date set of sales assets.

Your Experience, Skills and Characteristics

Essential

  • Proven track record (minimum 3 years) in a business development, sales, or account management role specifically focused on securing commercial contracts with the NHS or Public Sector healthcare organisations.

  • Deep, practical understanding of NHS structures, the current health and social care landscape, and the commissioning process (including the shift to ICB/ICS models).

  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence senior-level clinical and non-clinical decision-makers.

  • Demonstrable experience managing complex, high-value procurement cycles.

  • Self-motivated, proactive, and target-driven, with a strong ability to work autonomously.

Desirable

  • Existing network of contacts within NHS commissioning teams, Local Authority Public Health, or relevant government health bodies.

  • Experience in selling digital health technology.

  • Relevant academic background (e.g., Health Policy, Business, Life Sciences)

What We Offer

  • A degree of flexibility over working hours.

  • Direct impact on our mission to improve the health and happiness of young people.

  • Work alongside a highly creative and ambitious team.

  • Performance reviews and opportunities to develop oneself in a multitude of different areas.

  • An opportunity to experience different aspects of the business.

  • Insight into a mental health support tool.

  • Skill development.

  • Additional wellbeing days.
