Mental health support to get people working
Do you commission services to support young people aged 16-34 who are unemployed or economically inactive?
Hiremi is a premium service from Tellmi designed to support people who are experiencing mental health challenges that prevent them from getting or staying in work. It's currently available in Oxfordshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Sunderland and South Tyneside. Shouldn't it be available in your area?
Why we developed Hiremi
Young people with mental health conditions are nearly five times more likely to be economically inactive compared to others in their age group
The relationship between mental health and unemployment is bi-directional. People with good mental health are more likely to get and keep jobs, whereas people with poor mental health are more likely to be unemployed or to lose jobs. It is an issue that needs to be urgently addressed because 1.35 million people in the UK are currently economically inactive because of mental ill health.
With funding from SBRI, we developed Hiremi to provide 16-34 year olds with the tools and support that they need to manage their mental health while searching for work.
Our development work also revealed the need for inclusive work experience opportunities so we developed the Trainmi mental health volunteering programme.
Hiremi and Trainmi were co-created with unemployed young adults aged 16-34 who have struggled with their mental health.
“Being part of this group and getting to help create Trainmi and Hiremi was amazing. All the way through the process I felt that our input was taken seriously and that we all helped to shape the end product. I enjoyed working with everyone and our Friday meetings were something I really looked forward to. It really showed me how much more creative you can be in a group and how you really grow in confidence when you work as part of a motivated team.” Sam

"The Trainmi programme has been a brilliant way for me to get work experience and build my confidence. For once, all the things I have been through are actually useful because I can use my experiences to help other people. I have anxiety and I am autistic, so I could never work in a busy or noisy environment, but Trainmi has helped me to see that I can work digitally and that is really motivating me to apply for jobs."
