Tellmi is not affected by the social media ban
We’re not going anywhere. Tellmi is not social media and will not be affected by the proposed ban that has been announced.
Tellmi, now the world’s leading expert in the delivery of safe, digital peer-to-peer support, was launched in 2017. After two years of research into the benefits of reciprocal peer-to-peer support, Dr Kerstyn Comley and Dr Suzi Godson built Tellmi as a scalable digital alternative to 1-2-1 support models. Tellmi was designed to safely facilitate social connectedness, a key benefit of peer support, without exposing young people to harm. Tellmi has supported more than 100,000 young people in the UK and is commissioned by the NHS and local authorities.
The Tellmi app is anonymous, age-banded and 100% premoderated by humans to protect young people from bullying, discrimination or grooming. Strict safeguarding protocols ensure that personal information cannot be shared, and qualified counsellors are available from 8.30 am to 11 pm, 365 days a year, for anyone who needs additional support.
Numerous studies confirm that connecting to other people to share experiences helps young people who are struggling with their mental health to feel less alone.
Unlike social media, which leaves young people feeling anxious and depressed, Tellmi helps young people to feel better about themselves.
The Tellmi app has been independently evaluated and is evidenced to reduce loneliness, increase confidence and social connectedness, and improve mental health self-management skills in young people.
Ten ways Tellmi is different to social media
#1. Tellmi has no algorithm, no adverts, no bots, no dm’s, no grooming, no sharing of
personal information, no fomo, no ‘likes’ and no social comparison.
#2. 100% human premoderation means there is no bullying, no trolling, no sharing of images or personal data.
#3. Qualified counsellors available from 8.30 am to 11 pm, 365 days a year.
#4. Rapid support with no waiting lists, no referrals and no assessments.
#5. 100% anonymous, but enough data to get help to a child in crisis.
#6. Age-banding means young people are only ever talking to peers within two years of their own age.
#7. Filtering by topic connects young people to relevant peer communities to share support, advice and experience.
#8. The Tellmi directory contains 1,000+ postcode-linked resources to local, national or crisis support services.
#9. On-the-ground workshops and training in commissioned areas build trust and increase engagement.
#10. Independent evaluations consistently show that Tellmi improves mental health and reduces reliance on other NHS services.
