Safety Plan

When you feel distressed it can be difficult to think of things that might help to make you feel better. It can be even harder to think about how best to keep yourself safe. This safety plan is designed to help you to think about what might be useful for you when you have strong thoughts, feelings or urges to harm yourself, or to end your life.

Filling it in is easy. Just use the checkboxes to select the items that feel relevant to you and you can add your own ideas too. There’s a space to write about things that are meaningful to you, a checklist of ideas for activities that help you to feel calmer and a space to upload photographs of people, places, pets and other things that make you happy. You can also add contact numbers and email addresses for people you might want to call.

As well as thinking about what you may be able to do to help yourself, there is also a space for you to list the best ways for other people to support you when you feel distressed. It can be helpful to show this list to them if they are trying to help you.

You don’t have to fill this plan in today. You can take your time over it and you might even want to do it with a parent or carer, a friend, a school counsellor or a youth worker. You can come back and update it any time and if there is anything else you would like us to add to it, email us at support@tellmi.help
